installation / performanceA head on keys, a chromatic scale, a long note, a short one, a pedal resonance, opening and closing the lid of all pianos at the HDMK-Stuttgart. Heads on Maps is a double topography. On the one hand of a certain instrumental type (the piano), still central to contemporary musical education within our own educational environment. On the other hand, a topography of this type's sonic possibilities, through a sort of dictionary of possible playing techniques and sounds.
So far, three versions of Heads on Maps have been developed. A two channel video installation, a participative installation that comprises an additional piano and score and a performance version incorporating a live pianist on stage.
